Missy hopped out of the car as soon as it pulled up in front of the school and shot Jeral a "You better not run off before I get to talk to you" look.

Jeral dutifully waited for his sister until his mother had driven away. "What?"

Missy grinned. "I want you to point him out to me."

"Are you kidding!?" He whisper yelled it, as he didn't want to be overheard.

Missy looked at him. "Of course not. Don't point, just tell me where he is."

Grudgingly, Jeral obeyed. "Over there, walking toward the school. See?"

"Go ahead, you little chicken." She gave him a nudge in the direction of the Middle School. "I'll see you at lunch."

The way she said it made Jeral very nervous about going to lunch.
Lunch That Day Areki hefted her bag over her shoulder and prepared to go selling as soon as everyone was seated. The younger kids were filing out from the Middle School to join the High Schooler's in the Courtyard, and that meant more work for her, keeping "Crushed" away from them. She mentally counted out how many issues she had printed and how much money she was going to make.

Missy went out into the Courtyard with a group of friends, but quickly abandoned them when they chose to sit with a group of Preps. She didn't much care for that kind of conversation. Besides, it wouldn't do her any good to get caught buying "Crushed."
Darin took the lunch offered to him and quickly went to sit on the ground, his back resting against the school building. He set his notebook beside him and cradled Lala in the other elbow.

One of the children in Darin's class, a thirteen year old who had been held back twice, and for the sake of posterity shall be called Sam, regardless of whether that is actually his name or not, looked at Darin with unmasked disdain. "My, my, my, lookit that," he said, "The little pretty-boy still carries a teddy bear. Don't you know you're too old for that? Here, let me help you get rid of it." He snatched Lala out of Darin's grasp and help her above his head.

Darin jumped up. "Give her back!" He said planitively, a note of panic in his voice.

"Why should I?" Sam help the bear just of of Darin's reach. "In fact, you're too old for this. So you won't mind if I just. . .oh, I don't know, rip its arm off or something, right?" So saying, he yanked on Lala's right arm, causing the stuffing to start falling out.

"No!" Darin protested. "Give her back! Don't hurt her!" He jumped in a futile attempt to snatch Lala back from the bully.
Missy nudged Jeral and jerked her head in Darin and Sam's direction.
